CANADA-VIETNAM 35TH ANNIVERSARY FRIENDSHIP CONCERT

to celebrate Canada Day 2008 and the 35th anniversary of Canada-Vietnam diplomatic relations.

The concert will feature talented Vietnamese-Canadian musicians guitarist Nguyen The An and violinist Nguyen Phuc The Khai, as well as Vietnam’s National Opera and Ballet orchestra. Limited tickets are available free-of-charge at the Embassy.

Both The An and The Khai began studying music at very early age and are graduates of the Hanoi Conservatory of Music (now Vietnam Academy of Music). The An continued his studies in Canada at the University of Western Ontario, while The Khai became the youngest instructor at the Conservatory before moving on to study at the Singaporean Conservatory of Music. The An has released three albums, Live at Von Kuster Hall (1999), The Bamboo Child (2003), and Wildflowers in the Dusk with The Khai and saxophonist Vu Anh Tuan (2007). Both The An and The Khai have performed internationally and they are widely acclaimed both in Canada and in Vietnam. The Embassy encourages all music lovers to attend this concert on Canada Day.
