100 x FRANCE
French photography from its origins to today

at the Hanoi University of Fine Arts.

What the photograph reproduces to infinity has occurred only once: the photograph mechanically repeats what could never be repeated existentially.
- Roland Barthes

We understand the emotion felt by the world when photography was discovered in 1839. A dream come true.

The exhibition tells a story that begins officially in Paris to continue today. Each of these images is presented with a text telling the history of photography and its author, France and the French; Paris too. She especially wants to allow each of us to tell a story and discuss the history of French photography in different ways: the development of techniques and processes, themes that distinguish photography “artistic” “humanist” or “journalism” and the permanence of the relationship between photography and other arts.
