Authenticity in Vietnamese Antiquities and Tribal Art

The Friends of Vietnam Heritage (FVH) Art and Antique section, has been able to invite Dr. Mark Rapoport to give some information on: Authenticity in Vietnamese Antiquities and Tribal Art (with a postscript on cultural and ethical issues).
Dr. Mark Rapoport, of 54 Traditions Gallery in Hanoi, will describe the situation regarding fakes in the current marketplace, using examples he has acquired in Hanoi. Then, he will explain how to determine authenticity in:
• very old objects of bronze and stone
• tribal shamanic paintings and objects
• ceramics (an introduction to a very complex topic)
If time permits, he will give an introduction to ethical issues in collecting both ethnographic and antique material, a major topic in collecting circles.
Cost: 100,000 VND
Limit: 20 people
