From Goethe:
The Goethe-Institut Vietnam invites you to join the Mini DOC-festival for two exciting days which give an overview on the present work of the documentary film makers and a shared exchange about expression and impression. Young Vietnamese documentarians will introduce their most recent productions in the context of the DOC-festival.

On November 25th, 2011 members of DOCLAB will present their work of the past months. In addition, on November 26th there will be a screening of four productions resulting from a collaboration with the Ateliers Varan during the workshop “17th parallel”. Their balancing act illuminates Vietnam’s history: interested, critical, questioning.

Founded in 2009 by the Goethe-Institut Hanoi, DOCLAB has nurtured a new community of young independent documentary filmmakers and video artists in Hanoi. Functioning as a film center, DOCLAB is a place where members host documentary film and video art workshops, and create their own film productions. DOCLAB also offers screenings of documentary and experimental films from around the world to the Hanoi public weekly at Goethe Institut Hanoi.

“Learning by doing”- the Ateliers Varan are an internationally recognized film school of a special kind. Working in Vietnam since 2004 and supported by the Goethe-Institut since 2009 they train young film makers in Hanoi, HCMC and Da Nang. The workshops by the French film school offer young Vietnamese film makers the necessary tools for their productions and support the development of an active documentary film scene.
