Film festival: 06 Sep – 04 Oct 2012
Hanoi, Hai Phong, Hue, Da Nang, HCMC and Nha Trang

From Goethe Institut:

For the third time in a row the Goethe-Institut Vietnam presents the German Film Festival in Vietnam. After the overwhelming success of the German Film Festival 2010 and 2011, with more than 30.000 viewers in total, it continues in 2012 from 6 September to 4 October.  The Goethe-Institut shows a special selection of successful and recent German films in Hanoi, Hai Phong, Hue, Da Nang, HCMC and for the first time also in Nha Trang.

Again this year, the German Film Festival would like to give Vietnamese audiences the opportunity to get to know current German films and to discover new perspectives on Germany via the silver screen. Therefore we present, in more than 70 screenings, in original German language with Vietnamese subtitles or voice-over, selected films which have been particularly successful with audiences in cinemas around the world as well as at the Berlin Film Festival and other festivals.

In 2012 German films inspired with emotional cinema and current topics. They are about home and identity, extraordinary love and passion, but also about friendship and responsibility. This year’s German Film Festival in Vietnam offers the audience a selection of 10 film highlights from renowned directors and with popular German actors. The stories they tell are dramatic, humorous, melancholic and fantastic and sometimes all of these at once.

The festival films:

  • Our opening film „Promising the Moon“ is a moving family saga, which deals with dark secrets from the past. Just like the Roadmovie „Winter Daughter“, where the audience accompanies the twelve year old Kattaka on her search for her real father. Both stories are about seeking and discovering the own identity.
  • Another topic is the coexistence of different cultures in Germany. In several films the audience take part in remarkable destinies, which are on the one hand comedic like in Fatih Akins „Soul Kitchen“, on the other hand compassionate like „Three Fourth Moon“, where the grumbling taxi driver Hartmut develops a new joy of life through his friendship with the little Turkish girl Hayat, or they are compelling and dramatic like in „When We Leave“.
  • Of course we are presenting unusual lovestorys in our program as well. The romantic comedy „Men in the City 2“ was already in Germany a crowd puller and spirits were running high in the cinemas. Whereas the film „Summer Window“ is about a romantic-mysterious Lovestory, which leaves the audience astonished. Christian Petzolds award-winning film „Beats Being Dead“ starts as a romantic story about the twists and turns of a young love and ends up being an exciting thriller.
  • The programme also promises adventure films and entertainment for the whole family. The film „Lessons of a Dream“ shows how soccer was introduced to Germany by an English teacher and old friends go on new adventures in „The Crocodiles 3“whichis the sequel of the successful „The Crocodiles 2“ from last year’s Festival 2011.

The German Film Festival 2012 promises a great selection of films and many exciting, touching and inspiring moments for cineastes and for the whole family.

Tickets for all films are free. Please also take part in our film quiz! Answer questions about the films, which will be screened at the festival and with a bit of luck you can win amazing prizes. Hi, may I ask if there is a limit on number of tickets/movies a person can get?
    Thank you in advance.

  4. phm says:

Hi Thu, please call the Goethe-Institut directly about that, but I think normally one person can get only 2 tickets. You know, other people should have a chance too..
