From ADGE:

Only a few novels achieve the status of myth, DR JEKYLL AND MR HYDE is one of those rare books. Why should a rather short book, without a hint of romance, little violence and even less suspense (since surely every reader knows or guesses the identity of Hyde well before it is revealed), be so very popular? The answer must lie in its dissection of evil. Stevenson starts with a clean slate, he begins with no moral assumptions and takes his audience in a roller coaster ride through Victorian London.

DR JEKYLL AND MR HYDE is a thriller, a horror story and at times a grotesque comedy. We have tried to mirror this in our staging and hope we have done justice to a tale of injustice, violence and pure evil that is surprisingly moral. What strikes the reader and we hope audience member is the unflinching honesty of this window into the human heart.

Dr Jekyll is a scientist who’s subject of experimentation is his own inner being. He begins by trying to separate the evil and good inside himself by the use of chemicals but ends up creating a monster of his inner demons and leaving his original self riddled by guilt and the terrible desire to be the vile Mr Hyde. His old friend Utterson gradually discovers the shocking truth and barely escapes with his life or reason.

The production is brought to the stage by the same artistic team who created GULLIVER’S TRAVELS, FRANKENSTEIN and BRAVE NEW WORLD. The director Paul Stebbings has also directed such recent TNT/ADGE productions as KING LEAR, MACBETH and ROMEO & JULIET. The company’s style combines dynamic physical theatre with specially composed music, songs and striking visual imagery, adding a dash of audience participation to create a truly theatrical event.

The production tours over twenty countries worldwide from Britain to Vietnam and Norway to Malaysia in the autumn and winter 2013/14.
