KVT 2014

KVT muses on a Leda and the Swan in Hanoi and an initial misplaced romanticism accorded her burnt orange dress

i’m
xe dapping along trang tien
towards the post office
when a flash of orange
sears
my eye and i
glance left and
SLAM
on the brakes ……..almost fly over the handle bars

i
zig zag
zig
through
blarts and beeps
towards
a lady in a burnt orange
fly away dress
who stares
at me
(only)
from behind a window at number 61
through
-i imagine-
come hither eyes!

this
leda lady in fly away
burnt orange
holding
a white swan at her breast

IMG_1864

her icicle origami eyes
stark
as the planes
of her fly
away
burnt orange dress
hither
past my shoulder
to a double jowled gangsta in a black Mercedes ?
or
the reflection
of herself
in his glossy duco?
but
most likely
glower in opaque
fury
at the transgressions of male gods and mortal men
and
i know she
(wearing a dress
dyed in her own
dried
burnt orange
blood)
has good reason to
hate me

THE MYTHOLOGY OF LEDA AND THE SWAN AS DESCRIBED BY OTHER MALES:

And a swag of others

With apologies to the artist whose excellent work can be viewed at 61 Trang Tien but whose name, and gender, alas, i forgot to get in the heat of the moment

Also apologies to the late American poet E. E.Cummings whose poetry made me love poetry but didn’t improve my skill as a poet

Kiem Van Tim is a keen observer of life in general and the Hanoi cultural scene in particular and offers some of these observations to the Grapevine. KVT insists that these observations and opinion pieces are not critical reviews. Please see our Comment Guidelines / Moderation Policy and add your thoughts in the comment field below.
