Thousands turned up at the Deutschlandfest 2015 on Saturday, March 28, to celebrate 40 years of diplomatic ties between Vietnam and Germany. Organised by the German Embassy in Hanoi and Goethe-Institut, the event was a golden opportunity for German companies and organizations to showcase their products, activities and for Vietnamese to learn more about German culture.

Guests of honour at the event included Mr. Norbert Lammert, President of the Bundestag (a German parliament house), Mrs. Jutta Frash, German Ambassador in Hanoi and Mr. Vuong Duy Bien, Deputy Prime Minister of the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism Vietnam.

German band Raggabund was among the first to warm up the stage of Deustchlandfest 2015 with their groovy Reggae beats. A performance by Vietnamese students in German also got the audience on their feet and sing along with the catchy tune.

Students made up a large number at the festival this year thanks to the presence of education organizations like DAAD, the largest German NGO for international academic cooperation. DAAD host a talkshow with German alumni including singer Ho Trung Dung, to share experience living and studying in Germany. In recent years, Germany has become a dream destination for many Vietnamese students because of its recognized academic excellence and affordable cost.

Representatives from many German companies and organizations were eager to answer questions from attendees and provide information about their activities in Vietnam. The booth of the Delegate of German Industry and Commerce in Vietnam attracted a huge crowd, most of whom students and workers who were seeking employment opportunities with German companies.

For many other visitors, parents and kids included, it was a fun day to enjoy good food, good music in the company of new friends and immerse in a foreign yet friendly culture of a faraway land right in the heart of Hanoi.
