From the organizer:

Mien Meo Mieng means ‘Land of Distortions’. Caution, consideration and contortion are required in order to express one’s opinion in Vietnamese society, a reality with origins in the country’s history. A serious and critical message is often hidden behind a seemingly innocent and sometimes humorous statement.

Mien Meo Mieng exhibition includes video, painting, sculpture and installations by Vietnamese artists active in their homeland. The works deal with the topics of the aftermath of war, migration, economic conditions and the vulnerability of Vietnamese society.

The participating artists are Bang Nhat Linh, Nguyen Huy An, Nguyen Manh Hung, Nguyen Tran Nam, Nguyen Trinh Thi, Nguyen Phuong Linh, Nguyen The Son, Pham Tran Viet Nam, Tran Kim Ngoc, Tran Tuan, Trieu Minh Hai, Truong Cong Tung, UuDam Nguyen, and Vu Hong Ninh.

Mien Meo Mieng has been produced by Bildmuseet and curated by Tran Luong. Assistant curator: Le Thuan Uyen.
