Gudni Emilsson has for many years been closely associated with the Vietnam National Symphony Orchestra through his numerous engagements as guest conductor.

For Germany Year 2010 he has developed two new programs with the Hanoi musicians, including works by Schumann and Mendelssohn-Bartholdy, which will be performed as special events at the Hanoi Opera House.
Gudni Emilsson’s activities as guest conductor are part of long term efforts by the Goethe Institut to support music education in Vietnam and to encourage relations with German music institutions. Gudni Emilsson has been awarded prizes by the Herbert von Karajan Foundation and the Richard Wagner Foundation and has been honored by the Deutsche Musikrat. He has appeared as guest conductor for numerous orchestras and ensembles and his musical travels have taken him to festivals and stages around the world. He has served as artistic director of the Tübing Chamber Orchestra since 1999, since 2005 also of the Camerata Bohemica Prague as well as head conductor of the new Thailand Philharmonic Orchestra in Bangkok.
