Music Theater “Through the Valley” – Parzival
For many years, Tankred Dorst, the most-performed contemporary German dramatist, together with Ursula Ehler, has been occupied with Wolfram von Eschenbach‚Äôs Middle High German epic poem Parzival. The Parcival legend is an ever-recurring theme in literature as well as in music and painting. For Germany Year in Vietnam, a libretto from Parzival written by Dorst entitled “Der durch das Tal geht” (He who walks through the valley) will become a piece of music theater. It tells the story of a wild child of nature who sets out in search of the greatest good. He kills, he loves, he suffers, until he finally learns compassion for his fellow human beings. In “Der durch das Tal geht”, song, dance and drama will unite to create a very special piece of music theater. In addition to Tankred Dorst as author, the team includes Pierre Oser (music), Beverly Blankenship (direction), Hans Henning Paar (choreography), Andreas Lungenschmid (accouterments) and Christoph Maier-Gehring (dramaturgy). Working together with numerous Vietnamese musicians, actors and dancers, they assure us a splendid finale to German Year in Vietnam.
