From Goethe Institut:

On March 23, two of the most popular pieces by the well-known composer Ludwig van Beethoven will be played at the Opera House Hanoi. The German pianist Hinrich Alpers and the Vietnam National Symphony Orchestra (VNSO) play the Piano Concerto No. 5, also called “Emperor”. When Beethoven wrote the piece in 1809, he was surrounded by the sound of war. Napoleon Bonaparte and his troops were very close to Vienna which is where the composer lived. You can tell that from the sound of the piece which changes between heroic and peaceful moments.

The Piano Concert No. 5 as played by Polish virtuous pianist Krystian Zimmerman:

Following that, the VNSO will perform the Symphony No. 6 which is inspired by Beethoven’s love for nature. The concert is conducted by Kahchun Wong.

The concert at the Opera House is the grand finale of Alper’s Vietnam tour, during which he performs four concerts and directs master classes for piano students at the Conservatorium in HCMC and the Music Academy in Hanoi.

In 2010, he founded an international summer academy in his home town in Northern Germany where international musicians annually gather together for master classes and concerts.
