From the open call:

The German Embassy in Hanoi and the German General Consulate in Ho Chi Minh City would like to call for applications for the following Theme Trips to Germany in 2018.

The trips will enable all successful applicants to gain valuable personal and professional first-hand experiences in the political, social, cultural and economic fields of Germany. The invitation covers travel expenses (return flight), accommodation, meals and other costs related to the programme. Medical insurance will also be provided.

Language of the program is English.

This Programm is for experts and officials only – no scholarships for students! (Please refer to the descriptions of target groups for each trip below)

5 CULTURAL TRIPS WITHIN THE PROGRAMME:

1. 55th Theatertreffen Berlin 2018
Time: 7 – 13 May 2018
Destination: Berlin
Application deadline: 8 Mar 2018

Target group: Theatre critics, festival curators, directors

Agenda: Introduction to the promotion of theatre in Germany (Federal Government Commissioner for Culture and the Media, German Federal Cultural Foundation) and insight into Berlin’s theatre scene (e.g. HAU, Maxim Gorki Theater, Deutsches Theater). Visit to the Theatertreffen and to selected productions in German theatres. Opportunities to network, also through workshops, with figures from the German theatre scene.

2. Jazz from Germany – passionate, diverse and top-notch
(within the 25th anniversary of Jazzopen Stuttgart)
Time: 16 – 22 July 2018
Destinations: Berlin (2 days), Munich (1 day), Stuttgart (2 days)
Application deadline: 3 May 2018

Target group: Specialist journalists (music, culture, creative industries) and festival directors

Agenda: Gain insights into the German jazz scene, visits to artists, clubs, label showcases and movers and shakers of the jazz world in Berlin (e.g. A-Trane, B-flat, X-Jazz Festival, Jazzfest Berlin), visit to Jazzopen in Stuttgart, exclusive meetings with, among others, Siggi Loch (ACT), Julia Hülsmann, Michael Wollny, networking and workshops focusing on music labels (e.g. ACT, ECM, Enja in Munich, incl. a visit to Unterfahrt, a 40-year-old jazz club), jazz festivals and all of Germany’s major jazz associations, such as the Union of German Jazz Musicians, Jazzinstitut Darmstadt, Bundeskonferenz Jazz and Jazz & World Partners.

3. German sounds – rock, pop and electronic music in Germany
(within the 15th anniversary of c/o pop in Cologne)
Time: 27 Aug – 2 Sep 2018
Destinations: Berlin, Cologne
Application deadline: 31 May 2018

Target group: Specialist journalists (music, culture, creative industries), managers from the music industry and festival directors

Agenda: Introduction to the music scene in Germany and to new trends in Germany’s music market.

In Berlin, visits to and meetings with associations, artists, clubs, label showcases and movers and shakers (e.g. CitySlang, popkultur.berlin, MELT!, Lollapalooza).

In Cologne, visit the c/o pop Festival (focus on new German talent, incl. popNRW NewTalent Day), overview of the music technology scene and of new trends and fields of activity in the music market, as well as examining the impact of pop music on other industries, such as advertising and tourism.

4. The contemporary art scene in Germany
(within the Berlin Art Week)
Time: 10 – 16 Sep 2018
Destinations: Berlin, Potsdam
Application deadline: 14 Jun 2018

Target group: Specialist journalists, curators, gallery owners

Agenda: Overview of international contemporary art, the art scene and arts promotion in Germany (e.g. Federal Government Commissioner for Culture and the Media, the Federal Foreign Office and patrons); various discussions and a visit to the Gerhard Richter exhibition at Museum Barberini in Potsdam; visit art berlin contemporary (abc) and PREVIEW Berlin, studio tours, exhibitions, expert talks with the Galleries Association, artists, gallery owners, museum directors and curators, possibly also visit the studio of the Federal Foreign Office Artist in Residence.

5. 70th Frankfurt Book Fair 2018
Time: 8 – 14 Oct
Destinations: Frankfurt am Main
Application deadline: 9 Aug 2018

Target group: Specialist journalists, publishers/publishing agents, booksellers, representatives of associations

Agenda: Visit the Frankfurt Book Fair (Georgia is the Guest of Honour in 2018) and selected German-language publishing houses in Frankfurt; Visit/discussion with members of the jury of the Peace Prize of the German Book Trade, talks with representatives of the German Publishers and Booksellers Association and the Federal Government Commissioner for Culture and the Media, presentation of support for translation, reading and publishing.

    • Hi Thuy, Hanoi Grapevine is not involved in organizing the trips, so please send your application to the German Embassy:
      Ms. Le Hong Hoa ([email protected]). Your application must include:
      – a letter describing your motivation to participate in the trip to Germany that you apply for
      – your CV and copies of all relevant documents to support the information in your CV (degrees, etc.)
      – your application must be written in English

      Please attach your application and relevant documents (no more than 7MB in total) with your email.

    I would like to apply for the below mentioned visitor’s programme but the organiser’s site is in a language that I do not know. I would have preferred English. Will it be possible for me to apply in English and where do I send my application.
