After success of the project “Weaving a Realm”, with the same desire of bringing traditional culture to the masses, Vietnam Center would like to introduce the project “Future Written in the Past”.

The project comprises of events that take place from February 1st to February 15th, 2018, including displays of royal costumes in the first period of the Later Le Dynasty, and a re-enactment of the Almanac Presenting Ceremony at 7:30 p.m on 10/02/2018.

About the Almanac Presenting Ceremony:

Under Vietnamese monarchies, the imperial court, specifically “Tư Thiên giám” (司天監, Directorate of Imperial Observatory) was tasked with computing and composing calendars for use in public and domestic matters. More than just a tool to track time, the Almanac signified sovereignty and regal authority, for only the emperor of an independent realm had the power to issue it. Therefore, presenting the Almanac for the emperor’s approval was a highly important ceremony of every dynasty. Each year this ceremony would be held on the 24th of the last lunar month, as a preparation for the coming new year.

At the show, the audience will see 12 sets of Le dynasty costumes (including royal attire, formal dress, casual dress…) performed by the models. The demonstration will bring knowledge of the style, material, style … of the the first period of the Later Le Dynasty, which can be considered as the peak of feudal Vietnam.
