You are invited to a discussion of the literary collection “The Whispers of Three Hue Ladies of the Past” by Minh Duc Hoai Trinh, Linh Bao and Bang Thanh. Alongside the discussion, there will be film screening of unpublished documentaries from the 1930s.
With the participation of:
– Mr. Jean-Noël Poirier, former French Ambassador to Vietnam, director of the film MON HANOI
– Mr. Nguyen Khac Phe, writer and journalist
– Mr. Ngo Thao, writer and former Deputy Secretary of Vietnam Stage Artists Association
“The Whispers of Three Hue Ladies of the Past” was written by the three daughters of Vo Chuan – a minister and the last provincial chief under the Nguyen dynasty and his wife Ton Nu Thi Lich. Those are Linh Bao (author of Nhung Dem Mua – Rainy Nights), Minh Duc Hoai Trinh (author of Hai Goc Cay – Two Trees) – two famous writers-poets in the South of Vietnam in the 1970s, and Bang Thanh – teacher, translator – who wrote “The Stories of a Life” that allows younger generations to better understand a period in Vietnam’s history.
The screening includes excerpts from unpublished documentaries from the 1930s, filmed in Hue, Kontum, Quang Ngai and directed by former minister Vo Chuan.
