The festival, which opened on 29 Jan, features a variety of performances and exhibitions presenting dances, rituals, martial arts and crafts from around the country.

Two highlights are an exhibition with more than 200 antiques representing different periods from the pre-history to the Dong Son culture, and the eighth-century Thanh Mai bell, 28 cm in diameter and weighing 36 kg.

The event is considered a rehearsal for the Thang Long-Hanoi’s 1000th birthday celebrations next year.

    • There are two gates. One is in the middle of Nguyen Tri Phuong street, the other is in middle of Hoang Dieu street, opposite to Memorial Areas for Soldiers who died in wars (just east of the Hochiminh Mausoleum).

        • This is from Infoshare (http://infosharehanoi.com/wipinfoshare/):
The Citadel is open again this weekend (February 7,8) with displays of calligraphy, court costumes, arifacts and bonsai. The underground bunker and D67 (the War Room) open from 8:30 to 11:30 and 1:30 to 4:00.
Entrance from Hoang Dieu Street (look for the cannons on the east side of the street).
