The year 2010 is a very special year for bilateral relations between Germany and Vietnam. To celebrate 35 years of diplomatic relations, the year 2010 has been declared “German Year in Vietnam” and “Vietnam Year in Germany”, with a wide range of events and activities reflecting the entire breadth and depth of bilateral relations.

“Germany in Vietnam” is divided into four main themes:
‘The Environment’ and ‘The City’ deal with questions of urban planning, traffic, architecture, environmental protection and climate change.
‘Art’ presents a cultural, innovative and modern Germany.
‘Discussions’ encourages dialogue and exchange.

There will be festive concerts and innovative musical events, a film festival in several cities, photo exhibitions, artist exchanges and art in public spaces, as well as dance performances, music theater, authors’ tours and book exhibitions representing contemporary German culture.

Symposiums and exhibitions on environment-related topics such as water or forest management, on questions of sustainable urban development, migration, German-Vietnamese relations or cultural heritage preservation portray various sides of German engagement in Vietnam, not only for experts but for a younger public as well. An international fashion show, youth exchange programs, a chess tournament, visits by German politicians, and an Oktoberfest in Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City round out the program.

Watch for more details about cultural events on Hanoi Grapevine. Complete details about all events are available on the official “Germany in Vietnam 2010” website.
