【Probing for corporeality we can really feel in the current age of diluted reality】

The development of television, the Internet, mobile phones, and various other technologies have made it possible to bring occurrences in the distant past and times from the past and future before our eyes, as if they were really there. We nevertheless cannot imagine the tragedies which happened long ago and share the bodies we see affected by them. Designed especially for this present age of diluted reality, this work taps the fundamental power inherent in stage arts, which definitely cannot be experienced without actually being there. It is aimed at imparting a genuine grasp of reality by presenting corporeality that can actually be felt by us who live here and now, for a limited, uncertain future.

About Nibroll

Since its formation in 1999, the Tokyo-based Nibroll has staged many performances inside and outside of Japan, and participated in numerous international festivals. As evidenced by the many awards it has received, it has been widely acclaimed in Japan and other countries for its dynamic productions, which combine dry but violent choreography with video, music, and art, and flood audiences with their sheer volume of information.

Meanwhile, the Mikuni Yanaihara Project, a theatrical project featuring Ms. Mikuni Yanaihara, Nibroll’s leader and choreographer, won even higher levels of recognition and note in the theatrical world when it was selected for the prestigious Kunio Kishida Drama Award in 2012. Yanaihara took the project on a nationwide tour in the summer of 2013, and it met with great success and fervent applause everywhere it laid, in spite of the one-of-a-kind, cutting-edge character of the means applied by its dramaturgy. Even in the global context, Yanaihara must be termed a rare artist who is highly regarded in both dance and theater. She is broadening the range of her energetic activity to the sphere of art, and avidly taking part in exhibitions and projects in Japan and other countries, mainly in Asia.
