The British Council in Vietnam promotes innovative and diverse aspects of the arts including visual arts, architecture, design, dance, drama, music, film, literature and creative economy. Under our creative economy programme, we have been working to design and channel needs-driven support to a number of Cultural and Creative Hubs across Vietnam.

A Cultural and Creative Hub (hub) is a place, either physical or virtual, which brings people together to express their artistic ideas and creativity in a free and open environment, and in turn allows them to share the variety of different artistic outputs with their communities. In Vietnam, most hubs are independent arts spaces, cultural centres, architecture and design studios, photography, film and music studio, or maker spaces, and are often led and managed by artists and creative practitioners. Working closely with a network of hubs in Vietnam since 2012, the British Council and our like-minded partners recognise the vital role of hubs in supporting artists and creative practitioners and connecting them with the communities.

As part of the British Council’s continuing support to the network of hubs in Vietnam, we are pleased to invite applications for our Small Grants for the Arts and Creativity. We are offering 6 small grant packages with total value up to 12,000 GBP (approximately 382,800,000 VND) to hubs who successfully present a project idea that supports their sustainability and/or their sharing of artistic outputs with the audiences.

If your hub has been active for at least 1 year with a regular public engaging programme, you are eligible to apply. We strongly encourage applications from young and emerging hubs that are based or work outside of main urban areas, as well as those in the public sector.

The different types of activities eligible for our grant support include:
– Community-based research exploring socio-cultural topics, and public presentation of research results;
– Community engagement activities to address emerging socio-cultural issues of the communities;
– Training or other capacity building activities for artists and creative practitioners, students, or community members using arts and culture as a means and method;
– Public exhibitions in visual and performing arts;
– Research and publication of works of art and cultural values;
– Street arts and other outdoor cultural activities.

We would like to invite suitable candidates to apply by submitting an application that includes:

1. An Expression of Interest (3 page maximum), covering:
(i) Highlights of your past projects or events that support your proposed project idea;
(ii) Description of your project idea, including information about what and who it involves and when;
(iii) A breakdown of how the grant would be used to cover expenses of the project. Specify if the grant will only cover parts of the total cost and what are the additional financial sources.

2. A Portfolio – note that images, videos, music files etc. should be sent in an internet link.
