From the organizers:

“CÂU THEN VIỆT BẮC” (Northern Vietnam’s Art of Then singing) is a performance held in Hanoi by Then singing artists of the Tay and Nung ethnics from Lang Son, Thai Nguyen and other provinces in the mountainous northern region of Vietnam.

At the end of 2016, the group Đình làng Việt (Vietnamese Communal House) took a trip to Bac Son, during which the group members met with local Then singing artists. What they remember the most is the performance of artist Xuan Bach and his students. From then, Xuan Bach and his students have traveled to Hanoi several times to join Đình làng Việt in their Then singing performances, and left a strong impression on audiences with their excellent techniques.

We proudly invites members of Đình làng Việt to join this Then singing event so that audiences can better understand the value of this art form.

With its cultural and musical values, the Vietnamese Government has requested the UNESCO to recognize Then singing as an Intangible Cultural Heritage of the world.
