From Goethe Institut:

Franz Kafka was a passionate moviegoer, which was implied in most of his diary entries. At the lecture “Kafka goes to the cinema”, Dr Tran Ngoc Hieu will talk about the influence of cinema on the works of Kafka and some examples of this influence from historic film footage.

The majority of Kafka’s novels and stories suggests he was inspired by certain films and tried to incorporate their narratives into his literary works.

We owe these findings to Hanns Zischler, the researcher that made an effort to find and collect information about the scenes and actors that influenced Franz Kafka. Dr Tran Ngoc Hieu, a Kafka connoisseur, will help us understand this influence with some film examples.

Hanns Zischler (born 1947) is a German film actor, dramaturge, director, radio play speaker, photographer, translator and essayist.

Dr. Tran Ngoc Hieu (born 1979) has been teaching at the Hanoi National University of Education since 2001. His research interests include literary theories, contemporary art and Vietnamese literature.
