From Lotte:

Lotte Department Store proudly unveils “Đẹp Contemporary” – an collaborative art project the young artist Nguyen Ngoc Vu (Cau Be Tho – Rabbit Boy) – on its 4th birthday in Vietnam.

Inspired by the neo-classic beauty in the silk paintings by the late artist Mai Trung Thu, in this collaboration with the young artist Cau Be Tho (Rabbit Boy), Lotte Department Store hopes to introduce a new perspective on the timeless beauty of Vietnam.

The project includes 5 artworks recreating the image of the elegant, graceful Vietnamese young women in a contemporary context. Pop-art, modern images lined the interior of Lotte Department Store and on print goodies are the bridge between the quintessence of Vietnamese culture and the souls of art enthusiasts.

About late artist Mai-Trung-Thu – The master of silk paintings:

Mai-Trung-Thu, also known as Mai-Thu (1906-1980) is the master of Vietnamese silk paintings. Graduated from Class I of Indochina College of Fine Arts, he specialized in oil-on-canvas paintings at first, then switched to silk paintings and made a name for himself with this art.

From 1936, Mai-Trung-Thu decided to reside in France, but always bore a part of the homeland in his soul. His artworks have a strong sense of tradition, with images of Vietnamese women in the daily life: combing their hair, chatting, having tea, praying; and of kids playing by the river, wrestling, learning embroidery.
