Spoken word performance “Speak Hanoi”
An adventurous new spoken word series kicks off in Hanoi
Featuring readings in both Vietnamese and English
Sun 27 Nov 2011, 7.30 – 9.30 pm
Canopee Bar & Cafe
From the organizer:
Join us for an evening of literary adventure! You might call Noi Hanoi spoken word on steroids. There’ll be poetry, mostly unconventional, excerpts from experimental novels, prose set to laptop noises, bi-lingual readings beyond definition, Vietnamese lullabies, drunken online-chats spun into stories, and maybe even some impromptu translations. It’s a night aimed at bringing together writers across language and culture and injecting some inspiration into Hanoi’s growing literary scene.
Expect distinguished guest readers, energetic newcomers and a few surprises. Don’t forget your brain: audience members will be recruited to help us build a random poem. Plus, there will be an open mic, so bring your masterpiece to share! Performers in both English and Vietnamese will include Nguyen Bao Chan, Nguyen Qi Duc, members of the Hanoi Writers’ Collective, and many others. This edition of Noi Hanoi is the first in a monthly series of spoken word nights.
Listen up Hanoi! We’ve got something to say!
Admission is free (purchase of at least one drink encouraged).
