Cracking Bamboo – a rare treat – don’t miss it!
Last night (Mon 15 Sept) was the first of two opening concerts of Cracking Bamboo, the international percussion festival sponsored by Goethe Institut Hanoi and L’Espace, among others.
And what a treat it was!
Musicians from all over Europe and Asia are gathered in Hanoi for a week of workshops, master classes and performances. Luckily for us there are several concerts this week, culminating in 2 closing performances on the weekend in the Opera House. More details about times and places are in this earlier post.
This is a rare opportunity to see world-class performances by an amazingly diverse group of highly professional musicians. The Monday night concert was delightful, every piece a treat.
Tonight, Tue 16 Sept, at Goethe Institut at 8 pm is the 2nd opening concert. It promises to be equally exciting.

I agree. The venues should be packed out. How lucky we are that we get to see and hear artists of such high calibre…and all for free. My recommendation to all music lovers is to make sure you get a seat at the Opera House on Friday or Saturday to see how the week’s experimentation and collaboration makes anticipated, memorable fireworks.
What would we do without thecultural innovation that the Goethe Institute continually serves up to?
