Mitch Markowitz – Conductor
He was born in NewYork City and started playing violin at age of 8 years old. At 13, he began studying with famed violin teacher Lilo Kantorowicz Glick from Berlin who would remain his teacher for many years and his friend to this day (she is now 94). He also studied with Eric Rosenblith, Chairman of the String Department of the New England Conservatory. Mr. Markowitz studied violin and conducting at Bennington College in Vermont with many notorious teachers including violist Jacob Glick, composer Otto Leuning and the late Pulitzer Prize winner Maestro Henry Brandt. He has worked with the Vermont State symphony orchestra and the Marlborough Spring Festival Orchestra and has played and recorded with many television and film orchestras in Hollywood.
Markus Stocker – Cello Soloist
Markus Stocker studied the cello, viola da gamba and conducting from the world’s greatest musicians of his age including August Wenzinger, Nadia Boulanger and Fritz Magg. His successful debuts in London, Berlin, Vienna and NewYork led to busy concert career with regular tour to Europe, Russia, Israel, North America, South Africa and the far East, he has been a guest at numerous Festivals, including Salzburg, Lucerne, Marlboro and Lockenhaus and has performed with eminent musicians such as Rudolf Serkin, Sandor Wegh Martha Argerich, Wanda Wilkomirska and Gidon Kremer. His performances have attracted world – wide acclaim. Time page, Newyork times, called him “the aristocrat among the cellist of his generation” and the Daily telegraph described Mr. Stocker as a cellist of real stature whose technique serves a deep and extraordinarily communicative musicality”. Markus Stocker has performed and lectured in all Australian capital cities, notably in Melbourne at ANAM an VCA.
