Opening: Fri 21 Nov, 5pm
Exhibition: 21 Nov-05 Dec 2008

The Royal Netherlands Embassy, in cooperation with the Vietnam University of Fine Arts, presents “City Sculpture and the Human Measure” by Dutch painter Wessel Huisman.

Wessel Huisman (born in 1954), working in this exhibition from photos he took during an earlier trip to Vietnam, shows the rapidly changing constructed environment of Vietnam and the presence of man within it. Huisman has been fascinated by light since he was a student. Using alomost exclusively black and white paint, deconstructing and reconstructing the images, Huisman seeks to make light material while questioning the meaning of memories.

This exhibition was shown in HCMC in the first two weeks of November, where it received many positive critiques. It is part of a project financed through the Dutch Culture and Development Programme of the Royal Netherlands Embassy and Netherlands Consulate General in Vietnam. In addition to the exhibition, Wessel Huisman provides masterclasses and lectures for teachers and students of the Fine Arts Universities in both HCMC and Hanoi.
