Art talk by Kathy Koller on the topic of ephemeral outdoor installations, sponsored by Dong Son Today Foundation.
Kathy Koller – an American artist living in Hanoi – has been making art for more than 20 years. Her art is diverse in medium but not in content. Over the years, she has created interactive computer graphics, engaged in performance art, made works on paper, sculpted, taken photographs and created outdoor ephemeral installations. Her content has revolved around connections: connections of people to people, things to things, humans to earth.
While most art is created with the idea of permanence or longevity, some contemporary artists create ephemeral art in the form of installations. Installations can be found indoors or outdoors, wherever artists combine materials, such as paper, wood, or finished 2-D and 3-D works, into form. Many installations are ephemeral because they are made from non-permanent materials, for example food, paper, or natural materials found in nature (leaves, twigs, rocks). Kathy will be talking about her ephemeral outdoor installations.
