ART-TALK NO 11: ORIGAMI AND APPLICATION IN SCIENCE
Sun 30 Aug, 5pm

GreenZoom’s Art Talk 11 “ORIGAMI AND APPLICATION IN SCIENCE”
In March of 1995, Japanese scientists used origami concepts to pack and deploy a solar power array in the research vessel called Space Flight Unit (SFU). On Earth, the solar array was folded into a compact parallelogram, and then in space, it was expanded into a solar sail.
In early 2002, a telescopic lens measuring over 3 meters in diameter was constructed. The interesting thing is the way to fold the telescopic lens and the swan’s neck is completely identical. When launch the ship, they fold the glass again and unwind in outer space.
Origami is known as a subtle and attractive art, but you may be surprised to know that the art is the perfect application in science.
To learn more about exciting things behind the story of the solar array and the telescopic lens, we’d like to invite you to join program Art-talk No 11 with the topic “Origami and its application in science” with Vu Truong Minh and Vietnam Origami Group.
