Labyrint 09 – Writings and Observations: Call for Submissions.

Botkyrka konsthall’s international artist’s book exhibition is open for contributions – books and texts in various forms – by artists all around the world. This is the second edition of the exhibition Labyrint opening on 07 Nov 2009 in Sweden.

The title of the exhibition, ‘Writings and Observations’, (curated by Joanna Sandell and Pia Sandström) refers to the artistic practice of writing as a way of seeing, a way of altering the world. It’s open to artists worldwide with a mutual interest: the concept of books and text art, and the practice of writing.

This year’s edition will focus on artist’s books, artists’ publications, text art, and various aspects of writing in contemporary art. A research into writing as a way of thinking will be carried out. Does text art change the way we view contemporary literature and writing in media? How are ideas brought forth through text, and how can the way we read an older literary work or history per se, be changed through text? Labyrint will also present works with performative aspects such as film manuscripts of artists, and art in relation to text, music and sound.

When submitting a work, please include the following information:

1. A short presentation of yourself. (Max. 100 characters incl. spacing)
2. A short presentation of the work. (Max. 500 characters incl. spacing)
3. Country/place where you are based.
4. Production year.
5. Material information.
6. Suggested price if applicable.
7. Your contact information. Please include your postal address if you want the work returned to you after the exhibition is closed. We cover shipping costs of returned works. We will not cover insurance of art works.

All artists submitting artist’s books and text art will receive a confirmation that Botkyrka konsthall has received the art work. A curatorial selection will take place and a final notification that you have been selected for the exhibition will reach you no later than 10 Dec 2009. A catalogue presenting all of the participating works and artists will be produced in 2010. All participating artists will receive a copy of the exhibition catalogue.
