KVT – Weekend Jaunting in a delightful sort of way

OD Bods at the Museum of Ethnology
Australian Clare Martin’s sculpture installation is as delightful as Australians are delightfully odd. Martin pokes satirical fun at aspects of Australian culture in a very funny museum exhibit. Mind you, Martin is obviously pointing out that all cultures have their LOL and bizarre components when seen by outsiders. When you hear some of the very odd research pronouncements authoritatively pronounced by a lot of foreign observers about aspects of Vietnamese culture you become one with Martin’s brand of empathy.
It is a delight to peruse Martin’s installation and then wander into adjoining rooms to view equally encased, odd ethnic curiosities. (closes April 16)
Hans Christian Andersen
Encapsulated at the Bookworm’s ever decreasing art space that is being invaded by more and more books is a very delightful print cum drawing cum delicately colored group of illustrations based on the Danish author’s work.
Artist Nguyen Tran Cuong has a whimsical and magical eye and I’ve decided to buy one of the really inexpensive unframed pieces displayed in the alcove behind the exhibition space… although I like the way some have been encapsulated in wide frames.
Photos
Many of the photos of children at the Viet Arts Center by Thu Quyen are delightful to look at especially if you are a parent or grandparent and besotted with your children… as are some of the expat images adorning the pillars at the Sofitel Plaza Hotel especially if you are in tune to Clare Martin’s philosophy.
