From FVH:
FVH (Friends of Vietnamese Heritage) will present a special screening of the newly-restored print of “Little Girl of Hanoi” – one of the great classics of Vietnamese cinema with veteran director Hai Ninh in attendance for Q&A after the screening.
Plot: After the American B-52 bombing of Kham Thien Street and Bach Mai hospital, little Ngoc Ha’s family is shattered. Her mother has died trying to save children in a kindergarten, her seriously-injured younger sister is brought to a hospital, and Ngoc Ha encounters a variety of strangers as she wanders the war-torn streets of Ha Noi looking for her father.
“Little Girl of Hanoi”, produced in 1973, is one of the most remarkable movies ever made anywhere during wartime— full of exquisite and startling images. In the words of film critic Jonathan Rosenbaum, “The film is remarkable not only for its sincerity and emotional directness, but for its accomplished visual style.”
