Exhibition: 07 Dec – 13 Dec 2010

In 2010 Vietnam and Germany celebrate 35 years of diplomatic relations. This is also the year that the city of Hanoi celebrates the 1000-year anniversary of Thang Long – Hanoi. As a birthday gift to the city and also as a thank you to her citizens and artists, the Goethe-Institut presents the three-part exhibition “Hanoi – The City in Art” .

After a successful part 1, part 2 of the exhibition is continued.

Another “Germany in Vietnam 2010” event. See our Feature Page for info on more events celebrating German Year on Vietnam.

Paintings, etchings, engravings, photography, but also video works and installations by more than 20 artists who have worked with the city of Hanoi as their theme, will be shown in a series of three exhibitions. “The City in Art” was curated by Natasha Kraevskaia and Lisa Drummond. One is herself part of the Hanoi art scene with her “Salon Natasha”, the other has for years been a profound expert on Vietnamese art, and both are bound to their theme with passion and scientific expertise.

In the second part
of “the City in Art”, the focus is on Hanoi as an urban structure which is undergoing rapid change and upheaval. Romantic Hanoi is becoming a contradictory city which can be viewed critically. The exhibition will show works by Do Minh Tam, Vu Bich Thuy, Nguyen The Son, Vu Dan Tan and Nguyen Nhu Y among others.
