KVT – PARZIVALLY PERFECT

KVT HAS A TOTALLY MEMORABLE JOURNEY ‘THROUGH THE VALLEY’
I’m still trying to understand why I had tears streaming down my face by the time the clapping started but I’m going again on Sunday night and I’m pretty certain that I’ll end up the same way. I’ve been wondering for a while how the great western myth of Parcifal would transpose to the Vietnamese stage and I admit I was a trifle skeptical. Then when I read that the whole thing would be said in Vietnamese with all singing in German and with a Vietnamese cast, my skepticism ran red hot. But my fears were groundless. It worked…..magnificently.
The dancing was excellent, the acting was superb (from everyone), the singing gorgeous, the music and orchestra fabulous. The directing was, well, breathtaking….but more about all that when I’ve had time to digest it and able to see the computer keyboard properly without moist eyes.
If you’re any type of artist and missed it you were really silly. If you are a dancer or musician…. totally crazy. If you fancy yourself as an actor, set designer or director…totally stupid.
Thanks you marvelous Germans.
If you can beg, borrow or steal a ticket then you should. It’s on for two more nights.
What a superb way to kick into the 2011 cultural year!
