From Goethe Institut:
In their dance/theatre performance Faces, German-French choreographers Raphael Hillebrand and Sébastien Ramirez work with nine dancers (from 3 groups: Big Toe, Milky Way and Sacred Crew) and two musicians from Hanoi. This performance was created in 2008 as a collaboration between Goethe Institut Vietnam and L’Espace – CCF Hanoi, supported by Fonds Elysée. Now Goethe Institut is bringing back Faces for a tour in Vietnam, followed by performances in Paris and Berlin.
“The dancer’s masks raised questions about modern-day society. Do people wear so many different masks that, in the end, they are afraid to see their real faces?
Reflecting on Faces, we must admit that there are many ways to preserve traditional customs and pass them on to young people. This show successfully merged traditional and contemporary music and dance. Faces revealed Vietnam to be dynamic, opening and modern, but also traditional and culturally rich.”
