Hanoi Cinematheque
22A Hai Bà Trưng, Hà Nội

Pecha Kucha Night is coming to Ha Noi.

From the organizers:
PechaKucha, meaning ‘chit-chat’ in Japanese, is a social event with a patented format.

The evening will be filled with a series of informal presentations given by a diverse group of creative local people sharing in a 20/20 format:

20 images each displayed for 20 seconds.

Hanoi joins a global network of 432 cities hosting PechaKucha nights.

Organizers Colin Campbell and Van Anh Pham have recently returned from Japan where they regularly attended the Tokyo event and have teamed up with fellow Ha Noi resident Gareth O’Hara to bring the format to Vietnam’s capital.

“The PechaKucha format was started by and for designers as a way to share their work but has evolved into something broader – a night for people to share ideas in a visually arresting way‚” explained Colin. “Our hope is that the event will see the cross fertilization of ideas across different communities in Hanoi. We want to the event to be eclectic, engaging and relaxed. It provides people with a chance to share an idea, showcase a creative project or tell a simple story.”

Speakers need not be professionals to speak at the event and presentations can be in English and/or Vietnamese. PechaKucha nights are social affairs and can be quite lively, especially after the drinks break, so the visuals are a crucial element for presenters to make sure their message gets across.

The list of presenters for the first event is still being finalized and will include speakers from the local design, photography, development and art communities including:

Na Son (photography)
Cate Gunn (children’s stories – Blue Dragon Organisation)
Matthew Dakin (photography)
Julie Vola (art and photography)
Dave Payne (books and culture)

Admission is free. Drinks and snacks will be available for purchase.
