From Life Art:
Life Art cordially invites you to the performance “STRANGER”. This is a joint production of SameStuff Theatre of Phan Y Ly and English theatre artists Robert Hale and Paul Burgess. The performance is produced by the social enterprise Life Art and partly funded by the British Council Arts Fund.
With the theme of power struggle between men and women, performance aims at the experiment and application of new theatre as well as the stimulus of discussion and critical thinking on Gender in Vietnam. Feedback and dialogue from audience is an important contribution to the evolution of the project.
The performance content
The STRANGER is a one and a half hour performance that explores the issues stemming from stereotypes of masculinity and femininity. It traces the journey of a young woman and man who question the gender roles they are subject to and who also discover an acceptance of their own masculinity and femininity within themselves. They experience conflict and rejection with society, lovers and themselves.
After the debut in Hanoi, the artists wish to develop the performance further in order to bring it to numerous venues for broader audience access to this new theatre.
About devised theatre
Devised theatre is a process by which the actors and director together create a theatre show without using a script. The actors start with questions and themes and create improvisations that illustrate the conflicts in the topic we are exploring. Aspects of the personal stories of the performers are involved in order to build a story and a journey for the audience. Visual and physical techniques are also used to introduce spontaneous elements in the performance. The performance uses both abstract and literal ways of communicating the topic to the audience.
Free entry.
In order to facilitate inquiry on devised theatre, we also welcome you to observe the rehearsals on 2-5 April, at 9h30-16h00 and the Final Rehearsal in the evening of 5 April at 19h30 at the Black Box, 2nd Floor, 56 Nguyen Khuyen.
