This weekend, you are invited to another 2-film screening themed on Love: Once (Ireland) and A Very Long Engagement (French).

About Once

Once is a musical film set in Dublin, the capital of Ireland.

It tells the story of an Irishman, played by Glen Hansard, who plays the guitar on a popular shopping street in Dublin, and a young Czech flower-seller, played by Marketa Irglova. The Irishman and Czech girl start talking and discover their mutual interest in music. Together, they sing and play music and the story follows them as they record a demo CD together. This is also a tale of unrequited romance.
Made in Ireland on a shoestring budget, with the support of the Irish Film Institute, the film features scenes of Dublin city and beautiful music by its musician stars. It received the 2008 Academy Award for Best Original Song. It has recently been made into a Broadway Musical.

About A Very Long Engagement

A Very Long Engagement (French: Un long dimanche de fiançailles) is a 2004 French romantic war film, co-written and directed by Jean-Pierre Jeunet and starring Audrey Tautou. It is a fictional tale about a young woman’s desperate search for her fiancé who might have been killed in theBattle of the Somme, during World War I. It was based on a novel of the same name, written by Sebastien Japrisot, first published in 1991.
The film was nominated for the Academy Award for Best Art Direction and Academy Award for Best Cinematography at the Oscars. Marion Cotillard won the César Award for Best Supporting Actress for her performance.

The screening is for educational purpose, entrance is free, though guests are welcome to donate to TPD Centre’s Young Cinema Fund.

The Centre for Assistance and Development of Movie Talents was established with the purposes of designing and implementing programs to assist and develop movie talents and other activities for the development of Vietnamese cinema.
