ADGE and TNT Theatre Britain are giving away 2 pairs of tickets to the theatre performance Frankenstein in HCMC (1 pair for the night of 20 Mar and 1 pair for the night of 21 Mar 2015) exclusively for Grapevine’s readers.

Didn’t hear anything about ADGE before. And would be happy to see their performance and form my opinion. Vietnam makes me miss cultural life a lot, especially theater. Besides I’ve never seen Frankenstein on stage. Hope to get the tickets to have this opportunity:)

ADGE (American Drama Group Europe) được Grantly Marshall (gốc Ohio) thành lập năm 1978 tại thành phố Munich (Đức), với mục tiêu trình diễn các vở kịch với chất lượng cao ở nhiều nước với tất cả khả năng. Qua mục tiêu đó, tôi đánh giá cao nỗ lực của ADGE, nhất là khi đưa Frankenstein về các nước Đông Nam Á trong mùa diễn quốc tế này.
2. Tôi chưa có cơ hội được thưởng thức phần trình diễn của ADGE, và hy vọng sẽ có được cơ hội được xem vở diễn lần này.
3. Là một sinh viên khoa Ngữ Văn Anh, tôi rất yêu thích các tác phẩm văn chương Anh ngữ mọi thể loại từ kinh điển đến hiện đại. Đặc biệt là Frankenstein của Mary Shelley, vì tác phẩm này không đơn thuần là truyện kinh dị, nhưng còn chưa đựng những thông điệp về tính nhân văn sâu sắc. Tôi còn thấy trong đó một cảnh báo về việc nhân bản vô tính con người. Tôi muốn được xem thấy hình ảnh của Frankenstein trên sân khấu qua sự diễn xuất của các bạn ADGE để hiểu thêm về tác phẩm đầy giá trị này.

1. The American Drama Group Europe was formed by Ohio native Grantly Marshall in 1978 in the city of Munich. The very first performances were held in the University of Munich. It then expanded quickly to other theaters not only in Munich but also the other German cities. The list of places where ADGE have given performances to now include many countries in Europe and Asia.
I have not known them before until I saw this event listed on Hanoi Grapevine. I also know that before the Frankenstein, they have presented “Dr Jekyll and Mr Hyde” in Vietnam. I appreciate their efforts in bringing the English dramas closer to the Vietnamese.
2. I have never joined a performance by AGDE before. Hopefully this time I can.

It impressed me. It starts with a man believing what differentiates a scientist from a monster is the Soul. Then somehow he loses his soul and becomes a real monster. He believes that Immortality is the future of the human kind, and proceeds to turn another man into a powerful and immortal creature – the Frankenstein. That makes me curious to see how the whole story will be. Also, I want to see how the conflict between the science and the humanity can be addressed. To be honest, I have not read this novel before, thus seeing this story in the theater will be a whole new experience to me.
