LARK MINKOUS

Under several guises Daniel Henneberry AKA Lark Minkous, has played left field music in Hanoi for the last few years. Working both as a guitarist and as a solo electronic artist, his compositions are characterised by often dark ambient atmospheres, drones and the heavy use of delays, reverbs and layered sounds. His musical soundscapes explore the dynamics and contrasting worlds of electronically synthesised sounds and acoustic field recordings, which are both used heavily during live performances. His live performances are also somewhat unique in the electronic music world as he does not use a laptop. Instead preferring to use guitar pedals, acoustic pickups, mini discs and other small instruments to generate live sound.

Vu Nhat Tan’s music is colorful, improvising and never old. According to New York Time, “Vu Nhat Tan has found inspiration in ancient music, folk music, court music and chamber music from different regions of Vietnam. For then, the influence has become a peak through the sound sometimes mysterious, sometimes harsh glare of life …”

SOUND AWAKENER

One of the more confounding descriptors that have accompanied Nhung’s work so far is the word “dark.” While I can hear underpinnings of that when her noisy side comes out, her compositions feel much more ethereal and weightless to me. The dreamlike quality that would work well soundtracking a film by Stan Brakhage or Harry Smith.” – [Robert Ham for Consequence of Sound)

Nguyễn Hồng Nhung is the person behind Sound Awakener (solo project).

After a few years taking piano lessons, Nhung formed Sound Awakener in 2011. The project focuses on experimenting with different elements, especially random elements
