2015 has finally left after 365 days full of fun. We have tidied up a bit, and here goes our BEST10 list for 2015, featuring 10 art/cultural events in Vietnam that won the most hearts! The birth of Hanoi’s latest creative hub made it to number 5, but that’s nothing compared to the power of the film industry, which did not only dominate our list but also ‘steal’ the top ranks. The “Europe Days in Vietnam 2015” program celebrated Europe Day, 9 May – when the “Schuman Declaration” was made in 1950, building a foundation for what is European Union today – as well as 25 years of diplomatic relations between Vietnam and the EU. Highlights of the “Europe Days 2015” program in Vietnam – including the European Day concert, laser light show, the 5th European Literature event in Hanoi, a special exhibition and European Film festivals – were widely welcome by Vietnam’s youth.

Korean food festival was held in Hanoi on 12 and 13 Sep, at Keangnam Landmark Hanoi with many fascinating programs and activities, ranging from dancing – singing – cooking contests to story-telling, traditional games playing and exhibitions.

The 6th German Film Festival in Vietnam brought new German-language film highlights to Hanoi, HCMC, Hue and Danang in September with more than 30 selected films which have been particularly successful in cinemas around the world as well as at the Berlin Film Festival and other festivals. The films presented the remarkable dynamism and creativity of the German film industry, genres ranging from thriller to drama and comedy.

Dance Festival Europe Meets Asia in Contemporary Dance 2015

In five consecutive nights of the 5th festival “Europe Meets Asia in Contemporary Dance” in Vietnam, the audience experienced a broad and varied spectrum of contemporary dance from different countries: Germany, Israel, Japan, Poland and new performances from the host country Vietnam. A special highlight of this year was the performance of the internationally renowned Compagnie Sasha Waltz & Guests from Berlin in the Hanoi Opera House. Also, this is the first time the dance festival took place in HCMC with the performances of the Belgium dance company Wallonie-Bruxelles.

6. European Music Festival 2015

European Music Festival 2015

The 14th edition of the festival featured well-known musical talents from eight European countries (German, Belgium, Sweden, Austria, Czech Republic, Hungary, Poland, France) as well as a guest band from Vietnam. Solo artists, duo, trio and big bands delivered different genres of music, ranging from engaging jazz melodies to great classic, contemporary as well as Vietnamese traditional music. With 19 concerts in Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City, European Music Festival 2015 presented to the Vietnamese audiences a multi-coloured musical feast.

4. Japanese Film Festival 2015 “The Colors of Love”

Japanese film week 2015-the colors of love

Japanese Film Festival is one of the most anticipated annual events in Vietnam when the autumn draws near. This year’s film festival, under the theme of “Shape of Heart”, presented six Japanese films which portray various shapes of hearts: loves among friends, families, and lovers. All films were screened with both English and Vietnamese sub-titles in Hanoi, Danang and HCMC.

3. The First Italian Film Festival Moviemov in Vietnam

Last year the Italian Moviemov chose Vietnam as the next stop to unveil eleven outstanding recent award-winning Italian movies. That was the first time that an international film festival, which converges cinematography and fashion, took place in Vietnam, with the participation of Italian famed actors and film directors such as Ferzan Ozpetek, Paola Minaccioni and Stefano Fresi. Apart from movies, the festival also featured a fashion exhibition – another Italy’s specialty – that lasted for nearly a month.

The two-week long European Film Festival 2015 showcased Europe’s fascinating diversity and rich cinema tradition, portrayed in 13 films from 13 different EU Member States. Through various genres ranging from children films, drama, romance, thriller, comedy to documentary, the festival offered cinema lovers from all walks of life an enjoyable experience regardless their tastes. This 16th edition of the festival is a highlight among several activities held by the Delegation of the European Union in Vietnam throughout 2015 to celebrate the 25th anniversary of the establishment of the EU-Vietnam diplomatic ties.

Adapted from the novel with the same title by author Nguyen Nhat Anh, “Tôi thấy hoa vàng trên cỏ xanh” was much anticipated by Vietnamese film lovers months before its premiere. The story evolved around the adolescence of two brothers Thiều and Tường in their home village – a place that witnessed a variety of emotions arising from the characters as they were growing up. Created by the talented director Victor Vũ, the film was “a ticket back to childhood” that everyone once wished they could have had.
