You are invited to the film screening about Tokyo architecture in a bold Japanese space in Hanoi.

Tokyo is one of the most crowded cities all over the world with a population of over 37 millions with complex structures. Its high population density forces the urban planner to develop the city by height, and in recent years to optimize the existing space.

The film “Intercalary Space”, directed by Damien Faure gives us a very surprising view on urban life in the city. He did not focus on the modern high-rises, colorful supermarkets – often considered as the symbol of the big cities, but make us feel the house is deformed by the development in the city.

The film also mentions the architects facing with this architecture. They had to find effective solutions. It is also a lesson about Japanese space, from the tatami arrangement, using the “buffer” space between the house and street, to the adaptation of living in tight spaces in populous Tokyo.

It is an exploration in the cinematic language as well: half reportage, half feature films. The viewpoint similar to birds enable the audience to see the entire city and the smallest space.

“Intercalary Space” was selected in a series of films about architecture – urban by Architecture Cinema Club, to send a message that “PEOPLE is always the most important factor in the urban management and design!”
