Nguyen Van Huyen is especially keen on the social structures, institutions and matters concerning spirits, religions and cults. It is for this reason that when doing research on topics related to material culture such as habitations, costumes,… he always tries to discover their social significations. Although received French education and culture in a systematical way, Nguyen Van Huyen gives his work a particular style thanks to his nationalist spirit and breadth of knowledge on the Vietnamese and the oriental culture.
