The Meiji Restoration started in Japan in 1868. This is a series of reforming events leading to important changes in social and political structure of Japan. This restoration marked a turning point for Japan on the road to become a capitalist from a colonial, or half-colonial country.
The reform helped Japanese economy soar in the last 30 years of the 19th century, making it one of the countries with the strongest military power in the world. The country had adopted a modernization development strategy and avoided invasion by Western nations at the time.
This tremendous success is the results of many factors, particularly the “educational reform” and the role of great minds like Fukuzawa Yukichi.
On this occasion, we proudly present one of Yukichi’s important works – “An Outline of a Theory of Civilization” which includes his explanations of a modern civilization, of the road that Japan had to take to built a new, modern civilization fit for a modern country.
At the same time, we have re-published two books: “30 years of Japan Restoration” by Đào Trịnh Nhất – considered as a history handbook for Japanese understanding in the age of restoration, and “The Autobiography of Fukuzawa Yukichi”.
Come to the event to know more about Fukuzawa Yukichi and his influences on the successful Meiji Restoration 150 years ago!
