Dear film lovers and potential filmmakers!
Short films have been the “open door” that marks the start of a filmmaking career for many filmmakers around the world. Shorts films, unlike “feature films” or TV series, are short. And many of them, despite having been uploaded to the video streaming service YouTube in the last decade, have gone unnoticed by mainstream audiences.
Although you have certainly come across some “short films” on billboards, on the internet or on TV, those are not the type of short films that we will be showing you during Phim Ngắn Mở – Open Shorts, a monthly short film screening program hosted by The Centre for Assistance and Development of Movie Talents (TPD), and funded by the Culture Development and Exchange Fund of the Embassy of Denmark in Vietnam.
The selected short films that will be screened in the program are neither “masterpieces” nor “gems”, but are those worth watching, worth noticing for their “open” perspectives that express the voices of a young generation of filmmakers in Vietnam.
You will get to enjoy the latest films by young directors with different backgrounds and filmmaking experiences and discuss with them to understand more about their filmmaking processes. Filmmakers can take this opportunity to get new ideas, gain insights and share their experiences in making short films.
The first Open Shorts event will introduce 4 new short films by 3 young directors:
• Ephemera – directed by Hồ Thanh Thảo
• Layla – directed by Nguyễn Phương Anh
• Day One – directed by Quản Phương Thanh
• Eve & Eve – directed by Quản Phương Thanh
