From Then Cafe:

You are cordially invited to participate in Workshop: “Writing the Character-centered Screenplay” with TAMARA VON STEINER.

ABOUT THE WORKSHOP:

Tired of the hundreds of plot and structure-oriented scripts and movies on the market?

“Writing the Character-Centered Screenplay” Workshop presents screenwriting technique and process in a manner that any prospective writer will find user-friendly and pleasantly challenging. If you’re even thinking about writing a screenplay, dig into this inspiring Workshop.

“We need good screenwriters who understand character” is the same refrain heard everywhere in the film business around the globe. Yet, most of the standard how-to books on screenwriting follow the film industry’s earlier lead in focusing almost exclusively on plot and formulaic structures.

This workshop provides the definitive work on character-based screenplay. We will begin by placing screenwriting in the context of the storytelling tradition, arguing through literary and cultural analysis that all great stories revolve around a strong central character. Then we will suggest specific techniques and concepts to help any writer – whether new or experienced – build more vivid characters and screenplays. Centering our discussion around film examples and television series, we will take each participant step-by-step through the screenwriting process, starting from the logline, following the development of the multidimensional characters and continuing through to rewrite. Finally, every participant will leave the workshop with own ready-to-shoot screenplay for short film.

Espousing a new, character-based approach to screenwriting, this engaging workshop will prove an essential guide to all of those involved in the writing and development of film scripts. It’s not only the practical workshop for the aspiring screenwriter, it also celebrates what we remember and cherish most about the movies we love – storytelling that illuminates the mysteries of the human heart.
