From the organizer:

With “Pastoral” as the theme, folk melodies emerged. Through many years spent studying and living abroad, I, as well as other members of Maestoso, hold in ourselves a longing for our home country. Learning classical music in the foreign land is a right decision, but not without hardship and challenges. Perhaps as cultural representatives in Vietnam in foreign countries, we are but a small part in a vast sea of knowledge, yet Maestoso’s concerts always turn to our root and bear the spirit of our homeland.

We came up with the theme while talking and sharing with each other the new, exciting things, as well as the memories and longings for our home country. The decision to incorporate folk melodies into this chamber music concert was even more reinforced when I took on the role as the concert’s artistic director. The chosen works are those that bear a strong national identity of various countries, blended together in a harmonious, sophisticated manner.

The concert opens with the Piano Trio for Piano, Violin and Cello by the great composer Mozart. The yearning, full of vitality melody is expressed with his defining riff and the conversations between the instruments. One particular point of Pastoral Concert is the premiere of Suite of folk songs written by Nguyen Thuy Loan for two piano, performed to Vietnamese public for the first time. The show ends with a masterpiece for piano quintet (piano & a string quartet) by Antonin Dvorak with a Czech folk spirit.

All pieces performed in Pastoral Concert bear the same spirit, the same yearning for roots & homelands.

(Nguyen Duc Anh – founder member of MAESTOSO, artistic director for Pastoral Conert)
