From the organizers:

You are invited to see the “GASPARD” puppet show by Michel Villée and Noémie Vincart at the 5th International Puppet Festival in Hanoi.

Writing, staging and performing: Michel Villée and Noémie Vincart
Collectif Une Tribu

A man and a woman walk on stage. They will create an illusion of life. “Only with this piece of sponge and this of paper, after just a few seconds, you will think that it is a child.” Little by little, they will be confused by this puppet’s life.

Basically this is purely technique and game: two actors/puppeteers explore the possibilities on how they can collaborate. Each woman controls a puppet. They both understand their positions and their roles – a puppeteer and a puppet. By gradually, a man will join in the game. First, he will be the puppet’s second arm. Then, things are still clear. But chaos will soon happen. We don’t know who will take the lead of the game.

The show poses a big question of the fragile conditions of Human Beings, through the image of a puppet that is dependent and “controlled” by many other factors. You were born with the body your parents create, but grew up amidst influence of family situation, society, politics. Are we truly in charge of our fate?

ABOUT COLLECTIF «Une Tribu»

This is a group of artists from Brussels (Belgium) comprised of 8 artists: Natacha Belova, Rita Belova, Alice Hebborn, Sarah Hebborn, Valentin Périlleux, Daniel Schmitz, Michel Villée và Noémie Vincart. They have different working styles and qualifications. These years, they have collaborated in many projects and worked for many different shows. In the end, they decided to officially form the group in 2014, very naturally but still based on artistic and moral direction of the whole group. They want to together develop screenplays for stage, with puppets and props. Now they have 4 complete projects: Gaspard, “Cong dua”, “Bao tuyet” and “Vi pham”. Currently, 3 other projects are in their preparation stage.
