Documentary filmmakers often encounter difficulty in recording audio for their works. This then continued to cause problems in the film’s sound production.
The main reason is insufficient material collecting during filming. Also because usually directors film the documentary themselves or with a very small film crew. In addition, documentary pressured the filmmakers to react quickly to the current situation. Albeit the many efforts in preparation, with documentary, unlike feature films, unexpected situations must be taken into account.
This workshop organized by DocLab with the guidance of French sound engineer Arnaud Soulier, propose a simple, educational and practical approach, along with specific recording techniques for documentary. Problems with sound can be minimized during a documentary production. Thus, we will discuss different recording techniques, how to solve some common problems (through specific practices and examples), how to manage audio materials in the stage of image rendering. And finally, how sound works in the final stages of making and mixing sound.
