World renown Creativity and Theatre teacher David Glass’s Creative Practice Methodology is used in over 40 countries in Social development, Creative Education, Theatre Practice, especially Universities, Schools including the United Nations Leadership Program, The British Council, Save The Children and Corporations from Google to Mackenzie’s .

Creativity is most often associated with Artists, Performers or Musicians not Development, Social Welfare or Educational organizations. And yet creativity is increasingly on the agendas of these organizations. People are being told “Think differently”, “Think creatively”, “Think outside the box”. When people from more apparently “non-creative” organizations inquire into the techniques, skills and tools of creative activity they often feel they will be confronted with a lot of unknowns. If they go and ask an artist they might be shown how to paint but not how to be creative. If they go to an actor they are shown how to act but not necessarily how to be more creative. The response to this can often mean that areas of Development, Social Welfare and Education that would truly benefit from a more creative approach are frightened off. Not through lack of need or interest but simply through lack of tools, learning and vocabulary.

This workshop seeks to address this in a very practical way. First it offers an understanding of creativity as a process that is happening all the time. It defines creativity as something all people do and all people have access to. It identifies the ‘Signs’ of creativity occurring so that we are able to distinguish from signs that creativity is not happening. By knowing this we can be aware of whether we and our organizations are being creative. Secondly it provides a clear five-part methodology with Analysis, Examples and Questions, Exercises and Games to help individuals and organizations learn practically how to be more creative. Finally it sets out a blueprint of applying the Creative Methodology to projects within the fields of Development, Social Welfare and Education. It does so by showing how we become aware of creative and non-creative conditions so that we can best ‘cycle’ through the different phases of the creative process.
