From Heritage Space:

Heritage Space proudly present MAP-Talk 2: “FICTION of NARRATIVES” with presentations by artist Minja Gu (Korea), Đặng Hồng Anh (Vietnam), Quynh Dong (Switzerland) and Dương Nguyên Hoài Nam (Vietnam). The talk is going to be led by curator Pil Joo Jung from Korea. It is a part of the exchange activities in “Month of Art Practice – MAP 2019” by Heritage Space.

As part of the MAP 2019 with the theme “BEYOND DESTRUCTION”, MAP Talk 2 is a series of presentation and discussion about the process of practicing art by four artists:

Minja Gu will talk about 2-3 of her previous projects and on-going work for MAP 2019. Mostly her works are rather passive performances or acts conducted in a parallel manner through personal acts in their daily life under slightly different conditions or implications. They are documented via photographs or videos, and showcased through various media including drawings and writings. She will share with the audiences focusing on the meaning of the act of ‘documenting’ and the context in documented materials in exhibitions.

Dang Hong Anh will present her talk as a personal narrative of conscious & emotional stream. As in her introduction for the talk: ‘We seem to can not help putting ourselves in strange places by different ways to create something which is creative but maybe right for us personally. What I usually do is quite funny. They are personal/non-personal places or places of dream and they usually come from what i found very haunted or memorable. I can stand there watching them’.

Quynh Dong would like to give a brief talk about three works to give the audiences a opinion about her working process. By addressing themes of imagined realities, Dong is questioning the idea of representation. Memory turns not only towards history, archives, relics of past modernities, but also to the phenomena in themselves of haunting and reconstructing. In her work, Dong creates hyperrealities to provide an innate platform upon which she deliberately challenges cultural stereotypes.

Duong Nguyen Hoai Nam, an young artist based in Quang Nam province, will talk about two of his works and the method and process he created them. He mainly pays attention to the vulnerable local communities. His work focuses on social themes, inspired mostly by the events and changes in the countryside.

Language: English and Vietnamese with translation.
